What is the Folk Festival?

The University of Chicago Folk Festival is a three-day celebration of traditional music from the United States and around the world. We aim to keep the living tradition of folk music alive by inviting some of today's best traditional musicians to the U of C campus every February for three days of music, dance, and more.

This year, we are celebrating our 52nd Annual Folk Festival, to be held February 10 - 12th, 2012. As always, we will have three concerts in Mandel Hall on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings, and workshops in Ida Noyes during the day on Saturday and Sunday.

Want to get involved?

There are many ways to get involved with the Folk Fest.

Plan: The Folklore Society is still planning the 2012 Festival, and we need your help! We meet every Wednesday evening on campus in Ida Noyes Hall to listen to music, hire performers, and arrange logistics. For more information about our meetings and how you can join us, see the Join us! page.

Volunteer: Running the Folk Festival weekend takes a large number of volunteers, including coordinators who do the bulk of the organization. For more information about volunteering, go to our Volunteer page.

Donate: Festival costs are met in a wide variety of ways, including ticket sales, university funding and outside grants. But even with these sources of funds, it is difficult to meet all of the costs of putting on a great show. To find out more about donating to the Folklore Society, contact us at uofcfolk@gmail.com or at the mailing address listed in the sidebar.

Come! We're planning an amazing weekend to honor the remarkable history of the Festival. Check out the Performers page to see who's coming, and stay tuned for more announcements! Don't forget to sign up for our mailing list to receive information about the upcoming festival.
